Last year for the site’s anniversary, I dropped dozens of monsters for 4 Horror War, a purely hypothetical mons game I made up in homage of a bunch of horror characters I like. Well, one of the things I’m doing this year is the first 4 Horror War DLC, House of 4 Horror War. There will be sixteen new arky families for your perusal this month. Today’s family belongs to Gothic Horror, THE DARK FANTASY FAMILY!
As alluring as it is inhuman, Sirend lures enemies into dropping their defenses and acting carelessly with its enchanting songs and flirtatious mannerisms, only to tear its unaware prey apart as soon as they get within range of its talons.
If reassured that it is one of the most beautiful creatures currently living, Sirend can evolve into Medugon. Now able to stun opponents with a mere glance, this swift-moving serpentine monster is armed with bronze talons and deadly venom.
If put on a team with the Feral Beast Arky Fellwyrm, Medugon can evolve into Vermton. A scaly-skinned juggernaut, this vicious serpentine dragon is not only a brutal physical attacker, but boasts a powerful self-healing spell that allows it to survive even the most grievous of wounds.
If allowed to listen to 70’s glam rock, Sirend can evolve into Bowreth. A master magician and supreme charmer, Bowreth can utterly terrorize an enemy team so long as its kept far from harm’s way, as its HP and defenses are pretty poor.
If given a sip of delicious Essence, Bowreth can evolve into Zexii. A manic and selfish creature, Zexii specializes in draining the health of its opponents and absorbing it into itself, becoming stronger and faster with every successful attack.
If given a sumptuous feast, Bowreth can evolve into Muhconnel. A gluttonous and greedy entity, Muhconnel is incensed whenever it sees other creatures experiencing good fortune, gaining a boost in attack power whenever it witnesses another arky – be it friend or foe – getting healed, buffed, or otherwise helped during battle.
After slaying four monsters in battle, Sirend can evolve into Bergut. A physical brawler of extreme strength and fortitude, Bergut knows too well that one who fights monsters risks becoming one, but this is a risk Bergut is determined to take.
After consuming a bowl of eyeballs (or peeled grapes, who would know the difference?), Bergut can evolve into Bledbern. Trading some defense for a boost in speed and a few more ranged attacks, Bledbern is a fairly adaptable fighter who specializes in running rings around enemies.
I spent a solid three minutes trying to find a way to work “dance magic dance” into a complement, but I just couldn’t find a way. Perhaps I should have said your art reminded me of the babe…
That Pan’s Labyrinth/Kentucky Revenant homage might actually be a hatesink as effective as the (now *three?!*) mice. Doesn’t even need any overt mindwarping powers to be an (understandable) target. Medugon’s optic hairdo is also a clever tweak; she might not flat out *petrify* you, but good luck sneaking up on this one *or* lining up one of those ‘whack her with the clever use of a mirror’ ploys.
