Nogad was created by bonelessnerd for the ATOM Create a Kaiju Contest. Bonelessnerd retains all the rights to Nogad, and the illustration and profile here are adapted from their work. While Kaiju is not an official part of ATOM’s canon, it and the other contest entries posted on this site are considered semi-canonical – the Star Wars Legends to ATOM’s Star Wars. Bonelessnerd is a wonderful monster designer in their own right – their “Alternate Silent Hills” series in particular is a delight – so please give them a look!
Aliases: The Unliving Island, Numbskull Rock, Braindead Hill, The Cave of Flesh
Date Discovered: April 26, 1966
Place of Origin: Nogad Island
Notable Stomping Grounds: Nogad Island
Length: 1100 feet (700 feet at initial discovery)
Biology: Bizarre by the standards of kaiju, Nogad is the result of the catastrophic Yamaneon chain reaction caused by the 1954 nuclear bomb tests. While most of the monsters released by this event were fairly standard kaiju, the particularly unstable nature of Nogad’s habitat resulted in a rather violent nuclear reaction, turning Nogad into a bloated and comatose monstrosity. No one is quite sure what species Nogad is, with the prevailing theory being that it is actually a few different monsters fused together by Atomic Fossilization – not dissimilar from other monstrosities like The Writing Flesh and Gorale.
While Nogad itself is brain dead, its body houses an entirely unique biome consisting of massive and highly evolved parasites. Colossal tapeworms, roundworms, sea lice, flukes, parasitic barnacles, and more crawl and squirm throughout its inert flesh, feeding off of it as well as one another. Nogad’s body is virtually the perfect environment for parasites- a massive, infinitely regenerating host allowing them to grow larger and more advanced than any biome.
Nogad’s brain has been almost 50% consumed by a massive parasitic worm (dubbed “Trichinos” by Nogad’s discoverer, Dr. Jonah Gulliver) that could be considered a kaiju in its own right. It is believed that Trichinos has some degree of control over the rest of the parasites in Nogad’s body through a combination of telepathy and pheromonal control. This bizarre collection of organisms is paradoxically the reason Nogad hasn’t dissolved into yamaneon crystals: they act as a life support system for the titan, their biological processes fueling the action of its internal organs while its regenerative cells are in a constant battle with the mundane processes of decay.
While Nogad has never been seen in action, it is believed the creature possesses the standard kaiju power set despite its inability to consciously exploit said powers:
- Super strength
- An enhanced healing factor
- Immunity to radiation
Personality: Brain-dead and in a perpetual coma, Nogad has no personality to speak of.
