Plumera was created by IamTheKaijuKing for the ATOM Create a Kaiju Contest. IamTheKaijuKing retains all the rights to Plumera, and the illustration and profile here are adapted from his work. While Plumera is not an official part of ATOM’s canon, she and the other contest entries posted on this site are considered semi-canonical – the Star Wars Legends to ATOM’s Star Wars. IamTheKaijuKing is developing his own kaiju story on his tumblr, so give it a look!
Aliases: The Pacifist Bird
Date Discovered: February 14, 1957
Place of Origin: Indiana Yamaneon Cave System
Notable Stomping Grounds: Indiana Yamaneon Cave System, Typhon Island
Height: 60 feet
Length: 155 feet
Biology: A prehistoric bird, Plumera specifically belongs to a clade that evolved sickle-shaped claws similar to those of some retrosaurs. Highly intelligent, Plumera is not only capable of a wide variety of complex vocalizations, but has also been noticed making and using fairly complex tools. Attempts to teach her human languages have been made, though whether Plumera truly understands the words she has been “taught” or is merely parroting them is debatable.
Unusually for a bird, Plumera is poisonous: some of her feathers exude a toxin that acts as a sedative to most other creatures, dulling their tempers and slowing their movements. Her full power set includes:
- Super Strength
- An enhanced healing factor
- Immunity to radiation
- Relaxing Toxin
Personality: Plumera is a nomadic and friendly kaiju. She eagerly seeks out human populations to spread happiness and joy instead of causing violence and destruction like other monsters. While Plumera never stays in one place for more than a week, she makes the most of this period of time by interacting with humans. She has appeared at many hospitals, schools, large public events and cities to bring a little bit more happiness and excitement into anybody’s otherwise normal and bland day.
Plumera is also one of the very few kaiju who knows that she doesn’t need to eat (although she’s more than happy to eat any food given to her). Plumera absolutely refuses to harm a single living creature, and is always careful when in densely populated areas. She refuses to fight, even when cornered. Instead, Plumera will attempt to hug her opponent in order to get her poison in their system.
Plumera’s empathy stems from loneliness, as the avian monster has no family of her own. Very few kaiju seem to share her pacifist mindset, which has resulted in Plumera being ostracized by most of her fellow monsters if not outright bullied. While the harsh reality of her solitude weighs down on her, she can always cheer herself up by reminding herself that she has brightened the lives of many people around the world.
