Rampartogon was created by akitymh for the ATOM Create a Kaiju Contest. Akitymh retains all the rights to Rampartogon, and the illustration and profile here are adapted from his work. While Rampartogon is not an official part of ATOM’s canon, he and the other contest entries posted on this site are considered semi-canonical – the Star Wars Legends to ATOM’s Star Wars. Akitymh has an art blog where he posts pictures of his own creations, as well as commission pieces, so give him a look, won’t you?
Date Discovered: June 27, 1958
Place of Origin: Patagonia
Notable Stomping Grounds: Patagonia, Challenger Mesa Kaiju Sanctuary
Height: 100 feet
Length: 220 feet
Biology: A taxonomic mystery, Rampartogon is definitely part of the meat-eating branch of the Retrosaur family, but which particular clade he belongs to is unclear. While most of his anatomy seems fairly typical for a Paleo Tyrant, his arms are more similar to those of a Flying Tyrant. However, rather than evolving leathery wings, Rampartogon’s forearms end in thick, heavily armored sheets of skin that function as giant shields.
Rampartogon’s powers are fairly standard:
- Super strength
- An enhanced healing factor
- Immunity to radiation
Personality: Discovered in his late adolescence, Rampartogon’s introduction to the world was a brutal fight with one of his own brothers – a fight he won by slaying his own kin. From that day forth he was known as one of the most ruthless fighters in the kaiju world: a beast that always goes for the kill.
Rampart utterly adores fighting, and is constantly looking for new creatures to conquer, subjugate, and slay to prove his strength and power. His warrior bravado is slightly undercut by his adolescent moodiness. On the occasion when he loses a battle, Rampartogon’s initial reaction is to sulk and pout, sometimes brooding for days as his shame festers into a resentful grudge against the one who defeated him. Those who cross Rampartogon and live quickly learn they have made a relentless adversary.
Despite his pettiness, there are some recurring foes that Rampartogon holds a begrudging respect for, as the retrosaur values strength above all else. Those who show their strength time and again by beating him can’t be denied some esteem, and the monster has tried to learn from his betters on some occasions.
Rampartogon also has some sense of honor to go with his violence. He doesn’t pick fights with beasts that are visibly weaker than he is, and will generally grant a quick death to those he has beaten (especially if his fight proved they were clearly no match for him). Easy victories mean nothing to him, and while he is a vicious brute, he is not a bully.
