Tabbaogan was created by Lediblock2 for the ATOM Create a Kaiju Contest. Lediblock2 retains all the rights to Tabbaogan, and the illustration and profile here are adapted from his work. While Tabbaogan is not an official part of ATOM’s canon, he and the other contest entries posted on this site are considered semi-canonical – the Star Wars Legends to ATOM’s Star Wars. Lediblock2’s deviantart page is filled with monster concepts and speculative biology, so give it a look!
Aliases: Sledosaurus, Father of Sleds
Date Discovered: December 18th, 1977 (many unverified sightings predate this however)
Place of Origin: The Arctic Circle
Notable Stomping Grounds: The Arctic Circle, the Siberian Monster Zone
Height: 120 feet
Length: 150 feet
Biology: Despite its atypical body shape, Tabbaogan belongs to the Duck-billed Goliath clade of Retrosaurs. Standing completely erect and covered in a thick layer of blubber beneath his scales, Tabbaogan is in some ways the retrosaur equivalent of a penguin. Like his avian counterparts, Tabbaogan is swift and graceful in the water but awkward and ungainly on land, save for when he uses his body to sled down hills.
Tabbaogan has a mostly standard kaiju power set, save for one unique ability:
- Super strength
- An enhanced healing factor
- Immunity to radiation
- Water Vapor Blast from nostrils (either superheated and scalding or freezing and full of ice shards)
Personality: At first glance, Tabboagon seems to be, well, a complete dunce. He’s loud and boisterous, letting loose with bellowing honks and raucous trumpeting, and his every movement seems clumsy and awkward; he’s not aggressive by nature, either, preferring to flee rather than fight if attacked. It’s not hard to write him off as a pea-brained coward, similarly to how many people imagine his prehistoric ancestors were as well as the more well-known kaiju Pachydon.
However, the immense retrosaur is far smarter than he lets on. His clumsy, jerky motions are nothing but facade to trick opponents into perceiving him as less of a threat than he really is – and he is indeed a threat. Tabboagon is fully capable of using his considerable bulk to his advantage, but his true asset is his speed. The duck-billed retrosaur is a master at hit-and-run tactics, skidding around his foes and strafing them with both physical blows and blasts of steam and ice, even using his flattened bill to shovel up great masses of snow, earth, and rock and fling them at his opponents. The ancient kaiju is no slouch in close combat, either; his flipper-like front limbs make handy bludgeoning devices, and his armored head can be swung like an immense hammer to devastating effect.
Despite his skill in combat, however, Tabboagon rarely chooses to kill, instead preferring to leave his opponents battered and bruised, but alive, as a lesson not to meddle with the likes of him. Kaiju that kill indiscriminately or draw out their kills, however, are shown no mercy; the immense retrosaur has no mercy for such beings. All in all, despite his ungainly appearance, Tabboagon is a warrior through and through; although he is decidedly neutral towards humans, not going out of his way to either destroy or protect civilization, he may one day prove to be an immensely helpful asset to protecting the world.
