Barustrak was created by Dinosaurana for the ATOM Create a Kaiju Contest. Dinosaurana retains all the rights to Barustrak, and the illustration and profile here are adapted from their work. While Barustrak is not an official part of ATOM’s canon, it and the other contest entries posted on this site are considered semi-canonical – the Star Wars Legends to ATOM’s Star Wars. Dinosaurana has their own set of kaiju stories that even have their own retrosaurs, so if you like my stuff, give them a look!
Aliases: The Soviet Monster from Space!, The Colony Smasher
Date Discovered: March 18th, 1956
Place of Origin: The Volcanoes of Venus
Notable Stomping Grounds: Venus, Pittsburgh, Yellowstone Kaiju Sanctuary (beneath Yellowstone National Park)
Height: 200 Feet
Length: 180 Feet
Biology and Appearance: Hailing from the planet Venus, Barustrak’s biology is just as bizarre as its fellow Venusian, Karamtor. When retracted into its shell, it looks much like an ordinary meteor. The “craters” in its armor are actually holes that allow for a variety of feelers. Two large, organic treads are its primary form of locomotion, while its asymmetrical arms sport a hammer and sickle that it uses to mine the surface of its homeworld for nutritious sulfur deposits.
Barustak sports the following powers:
- Super strength,
- Enhanced healing and regenerative abilities.
- Immunity to Radiation
- Corrosive gastric juice regurgitated from mouth
- Subsonic screech
Personality: Barustrak’s personality is as enigmatic as its biology, as the Venusian monster’s behavior in the hostile environment of Earth cannot be considered normal considering its circumstances. Disoriented by the wildly foreign environment it has landed in, Barustrak is confused in the best of times and downright frenzied at the worst.
Its need for sulfur was the root of many of Barustrak’s initially hostile interactions with humanity, as the monster would attack factories in hopes of finding its necessary element. Like Karamtor before it, Barustrak settled down once it found a sulfur rich volcanic environment with high temperatures to keep it content.
When riled, Barustrak is a vicious combatant. Its armor is some of the hardest ever sported by a kaiju (which, considering how “freakish durability” is a standard kaiju trait, says quite a lot), and while it is slow and cumbersome, its sickle and hammer arms can swing with great speed and power, slicing enemies into chunks and pounding them into paste.
