Date Discovered: April 2nd, 1954
Place of Origin: The Tunguska Crater
Notable Stomping Grounds: The Tunguska Crater, The Siberian Monster Zone, Typhon Island
Height: 80 feet
Length: 150 feet
Biology: Glypton is an enormous, thick-furred armadillo. While her tail-club implies some connection to prehistoric glyptodonts (who she was named after, in a fashion), the rest of her anatomy skews somewhat closer to modern armadillos. She can even curl up into a defensive ball for protection like her smaller cousins. Her shaggy coat of fur implies she evolved to survive cold climate conditions, and some paleontologists have theorized her ancestors evolved during the Ice Age because of this.
Glypton’s kaiju powers include:
- Super strength
- An enhanced healing factor
- Immunity to radiation
Personality: While generally mild mannered, Glypton occasionally suffers from manic outbursts, during which she will often start play fights with other kaiju that quickly escalate into all out brawls. No one knows when or why these mood swings will hit her, though many of her fellow monsters have learned to turn tail as soon as she starts acting mischievous.
Her hidden wild side is even modeled in how she moves. Normally the armadillo moves slowly and clumsily – either walking on two legs or crawling on all fours. In her manic moments, however, she will curl into a ball and roll along at a fast and uncontrolled pace, sometimes even literally bouncing off walls. Few monsters move in such a variety of ways, and fewer still will throw their own body into the fray with as much reckless abandon as the armadillo.
While Glypton starts a lot of fights, she isn’t cruel by nature, and generally views her antagonistic moments as harmless fun. Her durable armor is partly responsible for this, as few blows can actually damage the armadillo’s thick dermal carapace. She either doesn’t notice or understand that her attacks deal far more damage to her enemies than theirs do to her.
Glypton enjoys the companionship of other monsters, and highly values those who share her views on fighting for pleasure and without malice. The few monsters that are willing to be her sparring partners command great respect from her, and, on the rare occasion where she gets serious, she is a powerful ally to those in need of her help on the battlefield.
